Fans Choose Wizkid’s ‘Morayo’ as This Week’s Favorite New Music in All-Genre Poll

Afrobeats sensation Wizkid has once again proven his global influence as his latest album, Morayo, topped Billboard’s new music poll this week. Garnering an overwhelming 78% of the vote, Morayo outshined a diverse lineup of new releases, including music from ROSÉ, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow, and even the highly anticipated Wicked movie soundtrack featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

A Tribute to His Late Mother

Released via Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records, Morayo is a deeply personal project for Wizkid, dedicated to his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun. The album title, which translates to “I see joy” in Yoruba, reflects the uplifting and heartfelt energy that runs through the 16-track record. In a summer interview with Esquire, Wizkid described the project as “very, very personal,” adding, “I hope it lifts spirits and spreads positive energy.”

Star-Studded Collaborations

Morayo is packed with collaborations that highlight Wizkid’s knack for blending his unique Afrobeats sound with various global influences. The album features contributions from Jazmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, Asake, Anaïse, and Tiakola, creating a vibrant musical tapestry.

Notable among the tracks is the lead single, “Piece of My Heart” featuring Brent Faiyaz, which debuted in October. The song performed impressively on the charts, reaching No. 4 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and No. 7 on the World Digital Song Sales chart.

A Follow-Up to More Love, Less Ego

Morayo builds on the success of Wizkid’s 2022 album, More Love, Less Ego, which peaked at No. 2 on the World Albums chart and No. 59 on the Billboard 200. The new album continues to showcase his growth as an artist, blending introspection with the infectious beats that have made him a household name.

The Competition

While Morayo dominated the poll, ROSÉ’s solo single “Number One Girl” secured second place, demonstrating the BLACKPINK star’s strong fanbase. Kendrick Lamar’s surprise album GNX followed in third, adding to the week’s eclectic mix of new releases.

A Celebration of Joy

Morayo is not just an album; it’s a celebration of life, love, and legacy. With its powerful tribute to his mother and a rich collection of collaborations, the album solidifies Wizkid’s place as one of the most innovative and beloved artists in contemporary music.

Fans and critics alike are praising the album for its emotional depth and genre-defying sound, further cementing Wizkid’s legacy in the global music scene.
